Here's finally a screenshot of the Combat Cards and position of the fleet, as well as damage distribution. Īs you can see above, it wasn't just a couple of stray shots - it focused down a ship on an entire different flotilla, never shooting it's own flotilla, only to be taken down later. Enemy mid lane is being tanked by 2 Guardian type hulls, but decides to open fire on Hunter on a completly different Flotilla and guns it down, ignoring it's own enemy flottila. Įnemy Top Lane was dizimated, killing One hunter in the process (despite the idea that Guardians should be first target, but I anyway). The second scenario I have to show is even weirder. I could assume the icon was representing their distance in their own Lane, but that is incompatible with the weapons they are firing - Those Hunters were fully loaded with slugs with a rocket for offlane assistance (because I always assumed that's how they would support offlanes, not gunning them down with slugs at close range as we can see in the screenshot). In the following screen, you can see they moved at (apparently) close range. Here, you see Mid Lane Flottilla (labed 1 as I didn't have a top lane) engaging in Medium Range against an enemy Flotilla in a different lane, according, at least, to the icon. I've found the same information on a guide (I think) was wrote by a developer of the game and posted in reddit, but since I found it on my cellphone, I'm not managing to find it right now. If there are no ships in the corresponding flotilla on the opponents side your ships well fire at the other flotillas using their weapons long range stats." You can edit which flotilla a ship is in by hitting the advanced button and then dragging and dropping the ship. You always need to place at least one ship in flotilla 2. "These are the groups that your fleet is placed into for combat. I've read this multiple times, including in the Endless Space 2 wiki, which reads: Let's go with a couple of examples, and see if I'm just wrong in my understanding, or if this really is a game issue.Īssumption - "Flotillas attack their own flotillas first, and when done with theirs, attack adjacent flotillas, but only at Long range". Yet, the game still behaves in ways that are completly arbitrary (in my view), and that for sure takes away part of the strategy element I so much enjoy in games. I've read every possible combat explanation there is, with how flotillas should operate according to range, cards, movement and even unseen things like weapon arcs. I've went through every single guide, explanation and the like I could find - on reddit, on whatever page google redirected me, yet I still find incongruences I cannot for the life of me solve. However, on my last campaign, I realized some weird things. Having recently picked up this game (2 weeks ago, around the new update), and as an avid strategy game junkie, I've been reading, testing and overall enjoying this game greatly.
